Artist Bio

I was born and raised in the green mountains of Vermont. My family is filled with artists. Musicians, weavers, ceramicists, painters and photographers have all had their influence on me. I am drawn to nature in all its forms and find it frequently emerging as a theme in my work. I am an artist. Before art journaling, I began playing with fabric and making art pieces, or art quilts.  I entered many quilt shows around the country. I wrote articles about my technique and process and was published in numerous magazines including several Somerset Studios publications. At a retreat for fabric arts I took a workshop on art journaling. Thus began my six year love of this personal, visual expression of my thoughts and feelings.

Art journaling led me to a desire to paint in a larger format and I am currently a mentored artist at Art on 30th under professional artist, Ari Kate Ashton. I have been juried into a multitude of shows at Art on 30th in San Diego and have work for sale at Art ‘N Soul on 101 in Encinitas. I also enjoy participating in outdoor art fairs and have been part of ArtWalk Little Italy and ArtWalk Liberty Station for the past three years. I’m currently enrolled in a professional certificate program at the University of California, San Diego titled “Art And The Creative Process”.

Every time I approach the canvas or journal page, I am ready to gain an understanding of my emotional and intellectual connection with life. There is always a reflection from within, along with the gift of clarity and purpose. I paint intuitively, letting layers of paint, fabric, collage and paper interact and unfold into a story. When I discover the story within the painting, its meaning comes into focus. When the meaning has been revealed, my painting is complete.
